Alvin M. Sabroff, F.S.M.E.

Expertise: Management of advanced metalworking technology development and implementation for improvement of manufacturing cost, quality and productivity.

Mr. Sabroff is an engineering management consultant with broad experience in identifying and implementing new and advanced manufacturing improvement techniques and technologies for industry. He has over forty years experience in manufacturing engineering and research management, over a spectrum from the world’s largest private research institute to a medium size domestic manufacturer to an international Fortune 200 company. At Battelle Institute-Columbus, he led a renowned research laboratory in developing new metalworking processes for the aerospace and automotive industries. He was one of the early developers of fabrication processes for alloy steels, superalloys, titanium alloys, beryllium, and refractory metals by conventional and hydrostatic extrusion methods.

In a twenty-year career with Eaton Corporation as Director of Advanced Process Development, he was responsible for planning and directing corporate process development programs to assist production operations to optimize manufacturing processes for cost reduction and capital avoidance. This work included studies on process design, tool and die design, process simulation and modeling, equipment innovations and extended to shop-floor implementation. He invented and developed manufacturing processes for commercial production of precision forged gears for automotive, marine, and aerospace applications. He holds ten patents on metalworking and manufacturing processes.

To maintain technology awareness, he is involved in several collaborative programs that feature industry/university/government relationships in the field of manufacturing engineering. These include activities with The Ohio State University Research Foundation, Center for Net Shape Manfuacturing at Ohio State University, Cleveland Advanced Manufacturing Program (CAMP), Advanced Manufacturing Center at Cleveland State University, and National Science Foundation.

Mr. Sabroff holds degrees in Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering from The Ohio State University. He is the co-author of the book Forging Materials and Practices and contribution author to several technical handbooks on metalforming processes. He has written over forty journal papers and technical articles. He is a Fellow of the Society for Manufacturing Engineers.
