Ash Khare established his business of consulting to the metals/materials industry in 2002, with particular focus on organizations conducting manufacturing, academic or research operations. This includes managing projects, programs & operations as well as being a technical specialist. He is an Affiliate Member of the Metalworking Consultant Group LLC.
Prior to this, Ash was associated with National Forge Company in Irvine, PA for twenty-seven years where he became expert in all phases of the open-die forging business, eventually becoming a Member of the Board of this employee owned company. National Forge is in the businesses of forging low and high alloy steels and superalloys. He holds a total of twenty-two US and International patents plus one US and one European patent application in process. Of these patents, fifteen patents are on the fabrication of hollow shapes including large pipe molds and Inconel 625 sleeves.
In addition, he spent three years as Executive Vice President of Elmhurst Systems LLC & Elmhurst Research Inc. in Albany, NY, where he was the project manager as well as technical manager in the manufacture of highly engineered High Pressure Containment Systems for a variety of industries such as food processing, crystal growing, ordnance, and hot isostatic pressing.
Ash has had a leadership role in several public service and technical organizations. He was a Governor appointee to the Board of the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority, and on the Board of the Anne Anstine Excellence in Public Service Series. He has been exceptionally active at the executive level of ASM International, and served as its President in 1999-2000. Ash is currently a Board Member of the ASM Materials Education Foundation.
Ash received a BS in Physics, Chemistry and Math from Agra University, and a Bachelor of Technology in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT-Kanpur, both in India. He received an MS in Metallurgical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken NJ. He has eleven papers published in various technical journals, and served as Editor of three ASM and ASME technical books on steels and high-pressure technology.
Ash’s general expertise includes:
- Production, fabrication, properties and applications of forgings of low, medium & high alloy steels and super alloys.
- Management of Quality programs including creating and managing ASME Code quality program and interaction with ASME Code, government and customer inspectors.
- Management of company Intellectual Propertypatents, trademarks, copyright and company confidential procedures. Including creating and administering the company Intellectual Property manual.
- Specification Management with representation on ASME Code, ASTM and other national technical committees. US Army, Navy, Air Force &/or customer specifications.
- Fatigue and Fracture Toughness evaluation and interpretation.
- Failure Analysis, report writing and Customer interaction.
Forensic Metallurgist in Technical Liability matters.
