Professor Ramesh Chaturvedi retired as Chair of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay in 1997 after a distinguished 36-year career as an educator and researcher in manufacturing. At IIT-Bombay he established the Materials Testing and Metal Forming laboratories and developed the M. Tech program in Mechanical Working of Metals in the ME Department. He also established the IIT program in Plastics Engineering and taught courses in these fields. His broad research activities included helical rolling of gears, extrusion processes, deep drawing, hydroforming, and forging.
He has served as a Consultant to many Indian companies in a variety of businesses from steelmaking to petroleum refining to automobile parts to medical products to munitions manufacturing. In addition to developing the IIT-Bombay activities in process research, he set up a number of training programs for industry in areas related to manufacturing metals and polymers. In the US he has consulted for A. Finkl & Sons and GE Aircraft Engines.
Professor Chaturvedi has written a book on Rolling of Metals and is the author of over 75 papers. He holds degrees from IIT-Kharagpur, London University, and Imperial College.
